The Minnesota Department of Transportation, Metro District is hiring multiple Transportation Generalist positions which May be located at our Metro Truck Station locations.

The Transportation Generalist maintains and reconstructs roadways; maintains traffic barriers; participate in bituminous road repair culvert cleaning; guardrail repair; and maintains roadsides. In addition, this position will perform preventive maintenance on highway equipment; operate tractor mowers and small rollers; remove object from roadways; set up traffic controls in high volume traffic and work associated with accidents, spill cleanup, rut repair, dead deer, etc.

Additional duties include but are not limited to:

• Performing landscaping duties on roadside (chipping of tree limbs, stump removal/grinding)
• Conducting rest area maintenance to wayside rests and scale areas (building and grounds maintenance, vegetation control, and parking surface repairs)
• Driving and operating a variety of heavy equipment to perform snow and dice duties, maintaining roadways for snow and ice control which includes: removing snow from roadways and shoulders; applying anti-icing and de-icing chemicals on stretches of highway under slippery conditions; removing frozen ice and materials from culverts; performing night or dawn patrols; preparing and inspecting winter equipment, such as snowplow equipment, and cutting edges and sanders.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation, Metro District is also hiring multiple Transportation Associate positions which may be located at our Metro Truck Station locations.

The Transportation Associate is a trainee position with a 12-month probationary period. This position exists to learn to perform road surface maintenance and snow and ice control activities to keep the roadways and roadsides safe, clear and in good repair according to MnDOT standards; and performs related work as required.

Transportation Generalist Minimum Qualifications:

• A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction AND a tanker endorsement (MUST BE LISTED ON RESUME).
• One (1) year of experience performing activities in any of the following: snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment or farm experience). Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience.
• Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Transportation Associate Minimum Qualifications:

• A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction AND a tanker endorsement. CDL must be listed on resume.
• Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

**Selected candidates for both the Transportation Generalist and Transportation Associate will be required to obtain a Class A CDL prior to the probationary period ending.

**Successful candidates for both the Transportation Generalist and Transportation Associate positions will be required to pass a computerized ACT math and reading test as part of the hiring process. The required passing score for the math portion is a level 3 or higher and the reading portion is a level 4 or higher.
