The Role

As our Lead Electrical Engineer, you’ll own the design and development of the electrical systems that power and control our drones. You’ll be responsible for taking concepts from whiteboard to flight-ready hardware, with full ownership of system architecture, schematic design, PCB layout, and integration. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role on a tight-knit team of engineers and builders.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and development of drone electrical systems (power, compute, sensing, comms)
• Design and validate PCBs, select components, and work closely with firmware and mechanical teams
• Define test plans and oversee bring-up, debugging, and flight validation
• Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing partners to scale from prototype to production
• Drive rigorous engineering practices, design reviews, and documentation
• Contribute to system-level architecture and long-term platform planning

You Should Have

• 5–10+ years of experience designing and shipping complex electrical systems
• Previous work on drones, robotics, aerospace, or similarly demanding hardware products
• Experience at a company like Zipline or in a similar high-integrity, high-performance domain
• Proficiency in schematic capture, PCB layout (Altium or similar), and board-level debugging
• Solid understanding of power electronics, embedded systems, sensors, and EMI/EMC best practices
• Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced startup environments
• BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or related field (PhD a plus but not required)

Bonus Points For

• Experience with avionics, high-voltage power systems, or RF communication systems
• Hands-on experience with environmental testing, thermal analysis, or flight certification
• Familiarity with drone regulations or aerospace standards
