JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Spa Director is responsible for the strategic leadership and day-to-day operations of the spa, wellness, and luxury retail boutique at The Cooper Hotel. This role ensures an exceptional guest journey rooted in wellness, relaxation, and elevated southern hospitality. The ideal candidate brings a blend of operational excellence, retail expertise, and an intuitive understanding of the high standards expected in a luxury setting.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the delivery of seamless, world-class spa, wellness and retail experiences in accordance with Forbes 5-Star standards.
  • Curate and manage the boutique’s product assortment, including high-end skincare, wellness products, apparel, accessories, and locally inspired goods.
  • Analyze inventory, purchasing patterns, and sales trends to optimize stock levels and profitability.
  • Coordinate with brand partners and vendors to ensure exclusive and on-brand product offerings.
  • Oversee spa operations including treatments, locker rooms, relaxation spaces, and fitness/wellness facilities.
  • Lead recruitment, training, and performance management of all spa and boutique team members.
  • Foster a service-oriented, collaborative team culture rooted in excellence and emotional intelligence.
  • Develop and manage operating budgets, revenue targets, and cost controls for both spa and boutique.
  • Forecast service and retail performance and implement strategies to drive both guest spend and repeat visitation.
  • Regularly review P&L statements, retail metrics, and guest feedback to inform data-driven decisions.
  • Create wellness packages, seasonal treatment menus, and lifestyle programming reflective of current trends and Charleston’s unique setting.
  • Collaborate with marketing to promote spa and boutique offerings through in-house channels, partnerships, and community outreach.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, licensing, and sanitation standards at all times
  • Stay current with industry trends and luxury wellness innovations to maintain a competitive edge
  • Conduct regular inspections, audits, and evaluations to maintain high standards of service quality, cleanliness, and hygiene in the spa.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience within a luxury hospitality or Forbes-rated environment
  • Proven track record of driving revenue and guest satisfaction in a high-end hospitality setting
  • Strong understanding of spa therapies, wellness trends, and holistic guest experiences
  • Experience managing multi-service spa operations, including treatment, fitness, and retail components
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills with a focus on team development and guest engagement
  • Proficient in spa management software and systems
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing P&L, budgets, and labor cost controls
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
